Another Example of Recycling

posted 25 Oct 2019, 15:44 by webeditor aintreeu3a   [ updated 25 Oct 2019, 16:05 ]

Recently, our meeting place, Aintree Community Centre, was refurbished but during the refurbishment a wooden bench we had unfortunately went missing. So, after some discussion with Sefton Council, we agreed to buy a new one between us.

The brand new bench is made from recycled plastic and should last longer than the old one.

As you can see from the photograph, members appreciate the opportunity to sit out, especially in the sunshine.

The Big Sing

posted 14 Sep 2019, 16:38 by webeditor aintreeu3a   [ updated 14 Sep 2019, 18:50 ]

The Big Sing was a North West U3A event held at Quaker Meeting House, School Lane in Liverpool on 5 September. One hundred and twenty five members attended from all over the NW, even as far as Carlisle. The day was facilitated by Stuart Overington a conductor with the Hallé Orchestra. Everybody learned about the skill of singing and sang several songs all together in the afternoon, most in four parts.

As usual when different U3As get together, the event provided the opportunity to meet members from all other areas and exchange ideas. It was a wonderful fun-filled day.

The event will be repeated next year as it was so successful.

Three members from our U3A, Sylvia, Marion and Margaret, came not to sing but to make and serve endless cups of tea, coffee, biscuits and cakes. An army marches on its stomach! Gill Russell, our trustee, thanked Sylvia, Marion and Margaret for all their help. Indeed, several members expressed their thanks to them for their kindness and efficiency.

Photography Competition

Liz Wilson is pleased to be winner of this year's Aintree U3A Photography Competition. The topic set for the Competition was Holidays, the entries for which were judged by an independent photographer. Liz's photograph is an image of Lac De Montriond in Morzine, in the French Alps, which was taken last July. Apparently the photo opportunity presented itself whilst enjoying the peace and tranquility of a Sunday morning walk around the lake.

Liz took her photograph using her camera phone. So, if you feel inspired, always be ready with your camera phone - and you could be next year's winner.

Congratulations to Liz!

Liz also takes many of the photographs that appear on this website. So, thank you to Liz.
